Suwannee

First off I would like to say sorry this is delayed but I was on the VA-CA.   A few Friday afternoons ago Mike, Sadie and I stuffed ourselves with some awesome Suwannee Thai food.  I would also like to start out saying that I LOVE this place!  It is one the best Thai food places that I have ever eaten at (not that I have been to a lot, but enough to know that this place is the best).  I would rate this place a 9.5 out of 10!  If they served booze it would be a 12 out of 10.  I have never had any bad food or bad service.  One downside is that it is on the other side of town but I think being located right across from the college gives them a lot of business.  My favorite is the drunken noodles and a side order of spring rolls is a must!  I will continue to eat here as long as I can and I recommend that everyone goes there at least once.

Suwannee is always a safe bet when you're hungry and looking for a little something to spice up your life.

Started with the spring rolls (and for all of you who have never had spring rolls, they're basically rice sheets wrapped around cabbage, carrots, cucumber, rice sticks, and tofu.)  Dip them in a little bit of peanut sauce, HEAVEN.  Mike, (pictured above) joined us for this little restaurant trip, and ordered the Suwannee beef soup (which is what he always orders) and as you can tell, enjoyed it thoroughly.

Tancy and I both ordered the old stand-by, drunken noodles with beef.
This photo was taken after I went all rabbit on the greenery decoration they insist on putting on the plate.  It was getting in my way of shoveling noodles into my mouth.  Greasy and spicy and delicious.

I also have a fondness for the pad thai with chicken, the pad se you with beef, and I've heard their cocoanut ice cream is delightful.

I had to rush out of there that day, but Suwannee's is always reasonably priced, and they even run lunch and dinner specials every day.  I WILL go back here.  Also, as Tancy stated above, pretty much the only thing that would make this place better, is if they served alcohol.  10 out of 10 from me!

Legacy 272

I would like to tell you about the place that Sadie, Mr. A and I just enjoyed but I am way too stuffed!   We went to the place that used to be the Venue but just as Monday switched to a new place that is ran by the people who run the Cellar.  We started out with Mozzarella triangles which were yummy, but how can you screw up fried cheese?  The burger I had was huge and fantastic.  The only thing I did not like about the place was the fact that the water tasted like towels.  I mean the water tasted like it was from the pool, so I opted to drink iced tea.  The prices were a little higher than I wanted to pay just for a burger and fries, but non the less I ate it all and enjoyed.  I honestly do not know what the food was really like, because I had been at the bar all day so I'm sure any food would have been good.  Maybe I will try this place another time when I am a little bit more sober  :)  Over all I would rate this place a 8 out of 10.  They had a good children's menu, the food was good but a little over priced and they served booze.    The wait staff was getting used to the new menu, so I would recommend giving it a few weeks and then going there.

I love eating in new restaurants, especially when everyone and their dog doesn't yet know about it.  We found out about Legacy 272 just by random chance the same day we ended up eating there.  We had planned on doing $6.50 burgers and beers somewhere else, but sitting for 30 minutes with a 7 year old is never something fun.  We opted to try this new place out.

The servers were still getting their bearings on the menu, but were very helpful, and friendly.  I was extremely impressed with the atmosphere.  The booth we sat out was very much out in the open, but the way it was set up, it felt very secluded, and private.

Our appetizer was fried cheese squares.  Before and After photos.
It's pretty hard to disappoint when it comes to ordering a delicious burger.
Mine had onions and dijon ranch sauce on it.  SINFUL!

Aiden's pizza was handmade and smelled phenomenal.
All in all a very pleasant experience.  There were only a couple of down sides.  The first of which was our water refills tasted like they came straight out of the towel bucket in the back (the first batch of water tasted fine.)  Next, the prices were a bit higher than we had planned, though $9 for a huge cheeseburger and fries at a nice place is pretty standard.  Finally, toward the end of our meal, our server picked up some plates from our table, and then dropped them, flinging a fork at and narrowly missing Tancy's forehead.

We made it out without any mass casualties.  7 our of 10.  I will go back.

Dona Mary

**So tonight Sadie, Mr. A, Davis and I decided to go on a little road trip to Gibbon to eat at Dona Mary's.  It was in the back of a grocery store and the atmosphere left a lot to be desired but over all it was really good!  The staff was very personable, nice and for the most part spoke English :)  The food was really, really good; homemade tortillas, chips, salsa and beans.  The price was also very reasonable.  The only down side that they lacked a children's menu but did offer hamburger/cheeseburger with fries, so that made two 7 year olds happy.  They did serve alcohol which is always a plus in my book and even gave me a discount for trying a new flavor out (another plus).  I would rate this restaurant a 7 out of 10.  There are a few things they need to improve but I foresee this one sticking around for awhile and I know I will definitely be back!

**There are three main reasons why I could eat Mexican food every single meal for the rest of my life; #1 It is cooked with Lard.  Anything that is cooked with lard, is good.  End of sentence.  #2 You can get ANYTHING on your plate smothered in ooey-gooey cheese.  ANYTHING.  #3  Most Mexican restaurants will serve you a huge margarita with your meal.  All if these things are good things in my book!

It is also an experience of mine that dive restaurants are the best types of restaurants.  Dona Mary's is no exception.  In order to get to the restaurant, you have to walk through a Mexican grocery store.  At the back, there are tables or booths, and a huge mirror along the entire one wall.  The walls were green, and the lights were far too bright, but the service was fantastic.

We were the first customers for the night, so we were pretty much the only form of entertainment for the employees.  Tancy had a special discounted "first try" at the strawberry banana margarita, made by the resident margarita-maker.  The chips and salsa were homemade and delicious. (it says something to me when you sit down in a mexican restaurant, and they don't make their own salsa...)  The food was amazing.  I ordered a shredded beef burrito.  It, of course, was smothered with cheese.  And beans and rice, the staple of any Mexican dinner.  I only had a soda.

There was no kid's menu, but they offered an array of burgers, and also a few other things that two very picky seven year old's would have eaten.  The food was reasonably priced, and for the four of us to eat, and Tancy to get a margarita, the bill came to just over $30.

This is a restaurant that I will tell other people about, and I assure you that I will indeed be back.

8 out of ten.

Thursday 8/11/11 La Familia

**On Thursday night Sadie, Mr. A and I decided to go out and eat at a new Mexican restaurant (sorry I don't know the name of it).  I would like to start out by saying this place was horrible.  In a scale of 1-10 i would give this place a 3.  It was clean but non of us ventured anywhere but to our table.  We started out with a small bowl of chips and 1/2 a cup of salsa.  After we ordered a cup of nacho cheese, it was cold.  The food was reasonably priced but it was very bland.  They could have added some salt and pepper and it would have been 100% improvement.  Over all no matter how bad the food, service and atmosphere is we were still able to have a good time, even if I did have to go home and eat a bowl of ice cream.

**La Familia Mexican restaurant.   I don't think I would go as far as Tancy has, to say it is horrible, because I honestly don't believe it was.  The location (and the parking) suck, but it was clean, it was a nice little environment, and the service was a bit over-the-top if not mildly annoying (but we were one of only two tables there.)  The food was bland.  A little salt and pepper would have gone a long way.  The portion sizes were good, the prices were good, the food was hot, but it lacked a lot of flavor.  I had a REAL coke for the first time in a long time, and I have to give two thumbs up for that one!
I also believe that the kid's menu was varied, which is good, especially for the little ones who refuse to eat anything other than chicken nuggets.
Scale of 1-10: solid 3.  I will not eat there again, though I don't think I'm going to have to wait and see, as I don't think it will remain open for long.

Coming next week, Tancy and I venture outside of our normal stomping grounds and are going to try another Mexican restaurant right down the highway from us, Dona Mary's.
